LEGENDS CLASS OF 2025
VERNON FORREST
Augusta’s Vernon Forrest earned him a spot on the 1992 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team. Later that year he turned professional and won 13 of his next 15 fights. That led to an IBF welterweight title fight in 2001 where Vernon defeated Raul Frank. Forrest won back-to-back fights against Sugar Shane Mosley becoming the undisputed welterweight champion and in 2007 Vernon won the WBC light middleweight title beating Carlos Manuel Baldomir. He lost that crown in June 2008 to Sergio Mora, but regained the title in September winning the rematch. Sadly in July 2009, Forrest was accosted by two men in Atlanta and he was shot and killed. He was just 38 years old.

BUNKY HENRY
A good athlete coming out of Valdosta, George Henry became better known by his nickname “Bunky.” At Georgia Tech Bunky was a two-sport standout. On the football field he was a kicker and his two field goals against Tennessee in 1966 helped the Jackets upset the top ranked Vols. But golf proved to be his best sport. After turning pro, Henry won the National Airlines Open in 1969. He was 9th at the US Open and eleventh at the PGA Championship. Bunky would go on to make 118 cuts during his PGA career. He died in 2018 at the age of 74. He’s a member of the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame.
