On this day in 1960, Hall of Fame forward Dominique Wilkins was born in Paris, France. A two-time state champion basketball player at Washington High School in Washington, North Carolina, Wilkins attended the University of Georgia, where he was an All-American selection and named the 1981 Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year.

After being drafted by the Utah Jazz and traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 1982, Wilkins spent the next twelve seasons with the Hawks (1982-94). He was a nine-time NBA All-Star selection and remains the Hawks all-time leading scorer, with 23,292 points. Dominique Wilkins retired from the NBA in 1999 with 26,668 points, 2,677 assists, and 7,169 rebounds. He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
